Paso Por Paso approved the purchase and installation of a filtration system for the Tierra Linda school at its March 2014 meeting. Mayan Families, our Panajachel contact organization, arranged the installation in January 2015 and we witnessed it in operation during our February 2015 visit.
Most drinking water in Central America contains contaminants but the residents have no choice but to drink it. This system filters up to 5000 gallons of clean water per day. It exceeds EPA Standards for the removal of bacteria, protozoa and cysts.
Paso hopes that this system will greatly improve the health of the students and allow them to be more successful.
