Diego Pazan, graduated in 2015 with a Mathematics degree. Like many Mayan students, he had troubles completing his degree, but was determined to graduate. Diego is married and has 2 children and they live in Panajachel. Diego is currently teaching Mathematics in Panajachel and was delighted to receive some Scientific Calculators donated to him through Paso Por Paso.

Luis Coche has graduated with a medical degree and is currently practising in Esquintla. He completed his medical degree in Havana Cuba and did his internship in the Esquintla hospital. Luis is from Santiago on Lake Atitlan. He is in need of all type of medical supplies.

Erika Perez  is in a 3 year degree program to obtain her Masters Degree in Education. She is studying at the Panamericana University in Solola. Erika was unable to attend university after finishing high school and worked for a year to save money. Her job in a second hand store earned her about $175 Canadian a month. Erika’s father left and does not provide any support and her mother doesn’t earn enough to help.

Max Tinney completed his medical degree in Havana Cuba and returned home to Guatemala where he completed a 1 year internship in order to become a doctor.  He graduated in February 2017 and is now a fully qualified doctor. The CMS program started when Roger Pretty met him and his family and realized their desperate need for funding in order to return to Cuba to complete his medical training. Max is from a family of 9 and is from Santiago on Lake Atitlan.

Patricia Gutierrez co-ordinates the CMS program in Guatemala. She provides information and application forms to prospective students, interviews them, provides recommendations to the Orillia committee, collects progress reports from each student monthly and disburses funding. Paso is fortunate to have Patricia supervise the CMS program and we look forward to our yearly visit with her and husband Carlos.
